As you may be aware, significant changes to Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) went into effect this year.  In keeping with the changes to the law and to demonstrate the Archdiocese's continued commitment to protect the children entrusted to our care, the Policy for the Protection of Child and Young People has been updated, as well.

Obtaining Required Background Checks and
Archdiocese Training Requirement for Volunteers

Pennsylvania Law: Effective July 1, 2015 the following clearances must be obtained:
  1. PA State Police Criminal Record Check - Can be otained online at epatch.state.pa.us.  Receive results within a few minutes. 
  2. PA Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance - Can be obtained online at compass.state.pa/us/CWIS.  Results will be Emailed to you within 14 days.
  3. Federal Criminal Background Check (FBI Fingerprint Clearance) - Only if you lived in PA for less than 10 years.  Go to pa.cogentid.com.  to schedule an appointment and pay for the backgound check.  Cost is approximately $25.75. 

        If you have lived in PA continuously for 10 years you will need the Disclosure Statement                       Application (Interactive PDF format) to be filed at the place of service.  

All required clearances, including FBI, must be renewed every 5 years.

Philadelphia Archdiocese Training Requirements:
  1. Attendance at "Protecting God's Children - Awareness Sessions for Adults" (Virtus). Go to Virtus.org to register for a session.  Once you attend a session, please drop off a copy of "Ministerial Behavior & Boundaries" to Lisa Moser at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Rectory Office.  
  2. Information & Communication Technology Addendum.  If you attended a "Protecting God's Children" class prior to July, 2011 you must complete the Information and Communication Technology Addendum (PDF Format) Please read the brochure and sign the Acknowledgement Form.  Please hand in the Form to Lisa at the Rectory Office.
  3. Mandated Reporter Training - Please go to childyouthprotection.org.  You must register first before you do the training online.
  4. Mandated Reporter Acknowledgement.  If you attended a Mandated Reporter Training prior to February, 2015 you must complete the Mandated Reporter Acknowledgement (Interactive PDF Format).  This is a one-time requirement.  When completed, the Acknowledgement form must be signed and hand in to Lisa at the Rectory Office.

ALL copies of Clearances, Ministerial Behavior & Boundaries, and Proof of Mandated Reporter Training must be dropped off to Lisa Moser at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Rectory Office before you are Cleared to Volunteer.
